Het eiland Madeira heeft een schat aan wandelmogelijkheden in de meer afgelegen delen, evenals de uitzonderlijke wandelingen die toegankelijk zijn vanaf de hoofdstad van het eiland, Funchal. We kunnen onder andere de minder bekende levada's verkennen, de smalle irrigatiekanalen in de bergen die water van de noordelijke heuvels naar de zuidelijke terrassen voeren.<\/p>\n

Wandeling langs de kust van Madeira<\/p><\/div>\n

We beginnen in Porto Moniz in de uiterste noordwestelijke hoek van het eiland. Het is een beschutte haven waar een massa puntige riffen in de lavarotsen natuurlijke zwembaden biedt. Afgelegenheid is de enige reden waarom het gebied weinig bezoekers ziet.<\/p>\n

De wandeling voert ons over steile terrasvormige hellingen, vaak met uitzicht op de kust waar Atlantische walsen neerstorten. We lopen ook de rustige Levada do Moinho met verschillende watermolens langs de route.<\/p>\n

Op weg naar ons volgende centrum, Ponta do Sol, aan de zuidkust, lopen we langs de Levada de Lombo de Mouro, een aantrekkelijke en weinig bewandelde Levada die hoog in de buurt van de centrale pas van het eiland bij Encumeada begint.<\/p>\n

Ponta do Sol is een klein dorp, genesteld tussen terrasvormige heuvels waar ons hotel op enkele seconden van de zee ligt.<\/p>\n

In onze tijd hier volgen we de helder stromende Levada do Paul over open heidevelden en door gigantische heide- en laurierbossen. We bezoeken 's werelds op een na hoogste zeekliffen bij Cabo Gir\u00e3o en gaan de centrale bergen in tijdens onze wandeling tussen Boca da Corrida en Encumeada.<\/p>\n

Als we naar het oosten gaan, naar Funchal, hebben we toegang tot een breed scala aan prachtige en spectaculaire wandelingen. Deze omvatten een wandeling naar het uiterste oosten van het eiland, waar het voorgebergte van Ponta S\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o een wilde en luchtige wandeling biedt die heel anders is dan waar dan ook op het eiland.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
