De stad strekt zich uit langs de oevers van de rivier de Gil\u00e3o en is een heerlijke mix van traditionele Portugese architectuur met diepgewortelde Moorse invloeden.<\/p>\n<p>Lagen van de geschiedenis zijn te zien, van Fenicische opgravingen via islamitisch versierde deuropeningen tot renaissance en barok. Het zijn echter de kleuren die je raken: oogverblindend witte muren, schitterende azulejo-tegels, vurig rode pantiles.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2833\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2833\" class=\"wp-image-2833 size-large\" title=\"Groepswandeling Oost-Algarve platteland\" src=\"https:\/\/legendatours.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Zimbral_walk-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Group walking East algarve countryside\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2833\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Groepswandeling Oost Algarve platteland<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tavira is misschien wel de mooiste stad van de Algarve en straalt een authentieke Portugese charme uit. Er zijn maar weinig grote hotels, er zijn veel kerken, vissersboten verdringen de rivier en iedereen heeft tijd om te treuzelen.<\/p>\n<p>Prachtige lege stranden met zand dat eeuwig lijkt door te gaan. Velden met sinaasappelbomen, zwaar van de geur van bloesem. Dan de heuvels van vijgen- en amandelbomen en huizen met oogverblindende witgekalkte muren en karakteristieke schoorstenen versierd om te lijken op fijn maaswerk van kant. En als laatste de grote open ruimtes. Landinwaarts slingeren we ons een weg tussen heuvels en valleien naar de lage top van Zimbral, met weidse uitzichten.<\/p>\n<p>Oude paden voeren ons langs boerderijen, door een ingewikkeld lappendeken van sinaasappelboomgaarden, olijf- en johannesbroodboomgaarden. Soms lopen we langs rivieren; andere keren tussen de dennen en kurkeiken.
