Je bekijkt Vila Real de Santo Ant\u00f3nio, een stad gesticht in 1774, volgens de principes van de Verlichting. Het werd gebouwd als een replica van het stratenpatroon van het centrum van Lissabon na de verwoestende aardbeving van 1755.<\/p>\n

De excursies in het binnenland, naar de heuvels boven Tavira, zullen de aantrekkingskracht van slaperige dorpjes zoals Cachopo blootleggen, met witgekalkte huizen met opvallend versierde borstweringen in de gevels. Het kasteel van Alcoutim werd gebouwd in de 16e eeuw en vanuit de perfect verzorgde tuinen heb je een uitstekend uitzichtpunt. Er zijn talloze legendes over het kasteel, die vertellen over dappere ridders en mooie Moorse prinsessen, gefrustreerd in hun liefde en betoverd.<\/p>\n

De kliffen van Kaap S. Vicent, het meest zuidwestelijke punt in Portugal en in Europa, zijn een duizelingwekkende 60 meter hoog en vallen naar beneden in de woedende nevel van de golven.<\/p>\n

Je kunt van bovenaf woeste mannen zien die de rotsen beklimmen en de beukende golven van de Atlantische Oceaan trotseren om ganzenmosselen te oogsten in een zeer gevaarlijke vangst.
