Castro Marim is een van de oudste gemeenschappen in de Algarve en was tot 1242 een belangrijk centrum van de Arabische macht.<\/p>\n
De strategische ligging aan de grens en de noodzaak om de Moorse aanvallen vanuit Noord-Afrika af te weren waren de redenen om het kasteel, het fort en de muren te bouwen, zeer goed bewaard gebleven en een rondleiding waard.<\/p>\n
Vanaf het commando van de kantelen is er een uitstekend uitzicht over de omgeving, die zich uitstrekt tot aan de prachtige zoutpannen die het zonlicht reflecteren in hun witte vlak, waar traditioneel zout wordt geproduceerd. In de verte meandert de rivier de Guadiana.<\/p>\n
De elegante omtrek van de flamingo's is een bekend gezicht. Deze prachtige vogels zijn in overvloed aanwezig in de vruchtbare vlaktes langs de oevers van de rivier de Guadiana, de thuisbasis van een schat aan andere soorten, die gedijen in het natuurreservaat Castro Marim.<\/p>\n
