A cidade estende-se ao longo das margens do Rio Gil\u00e3o e \u00e9 uma mistura encantadora da arquitetura tradicional portuguesa com profundas influ\u00eancias mouriscas.<\/p>\n<p>Camadas de hist\u00f3ria podem ser vistas, desde escava\u00e7\u00f5es fen\u00edcias atrav\u00e9s de portas decoradas com decora\u00e7\u00e3o isl\u00e2mica at\u00e9 floreios renascentistas e barrocos. Em seguida, as colinas de figueiras e amendoeiras e casas com paredes caiadas de branco deslumbrantes e chamin\u00e9s distintas decoradas para se assemelhar a rendilhados finos. No interior, serpenteamos entre colinas e vales at\u00e9 o baixo pico de Zimbral, com amplas vistas gratificantes.<\/p>\n<p>Trilhas antigas nos levam por fazendas, atrav\u00e9s de uma intrincada colcha de retalhos de pomares de laranjeiras, oliveiras e alfarrobeiras. \u00c0s vezes caminhamos ao lado de rios; outras vezes entre os pinheiros e sobreiros.
