Tour Description
Monte Gordo is a small beach resort, in the East Algarve, near the border with Spain.
The beauty of the long beach and the warm, safe waters surrounded by pine woods are ideal for a relaxing long-stay holiday.
Live like a local and travel at your leisure, while enjoying Algarve’s annual 300 days of sun!

Monte Gordo fishing boats
The village counts with a casino, but at the low season, it’s a quiet fishing village, with quaint colorful boats and slow-paced life.
Nearby, you have many attractions to visit. Vila Real de Santo António, a historical city on the margins of the Guadiana River, separates Portugal from Spain. The ferry crossing is a good opportunity to appreciate the landscape of rolling hills along the river, and for a late tapas lunch.
Castro Marim, one of the oldest communities in the Algarve, and an important center of Arab power until 1242 has very well preserved monuments, worthy of a tour. From the battlements command, there’s an excellent vista to the magnificent salt-pans where traditional salt is produced.
The elegant outline of the flamingos is a common sight. These lovely birds abound in the fertile plains along the banks of the Guadiana River, home for a wealth of other species, thriving in the Castro Marim Nature Reserve.

Orange trees perfume the air in the Algarve countryside
The area around Monte Gordo is mainly flat and surrounded by pine trees, agreeable for leisure and nature activities, like walking, cycling, or birdwatching.
Another idea is to hop on a train to the lovely city of Tavira, to visit this historic city or to enjoy a relaxing boat tour in the Ria Formosa Nature Park.
Escape from the cold and rainy days! Spend a relaxing time exploring the region and enjoying the amenities on and nearby the beach, classed as accessible for all, and nearly desert when the high season ends.
